Facts About ECVP

What is ECVP? The European Conference on Visual Perception takes off in 1978, when the first edition was organized in Marburg, Germany, by the Professors John Mollon (Cambridge University), Lothar Spillmann (Freiburg University) and Richard Cavonius (Dortmund University). The meeting has now become a major event for scientists in the field from all over the world.

What does ECVP deal with? Scientifically, ECVP deals with Vision Science, an interdisciplinary domain formed by neuroscientists, biologists, experimental psychologists, physicists, medical doctors and engineers studying the neural and cognitive mechanisms of vision, as well as their connections with the other sensory modalities. The knowledge arising from vision science is traditionally applied to the domains of human factors, artificial vision, neurology and neuropsychology and the visual arts.

Conference site. ECVP is an itinerant meeting. Its locations are decided two years in advance by the Business Meeting of the participants that screens all the proposals and vote for one of the alternatives. The various locations of ECVP throughout its history are listed in the website www.ecvp.org.

Participants. Typically, ECVP hosts the leading experts of the field worldwide. The number of ECVP attendants is steadily rising and has reached about 966 in the 2007 edition held in Arezzo, Italy. The geographical distribution of participants follow the world-wide scientific topography, with peaks of representatives from United States, Japan and Western Europe.

Fellowship program. Fellowship program: Fellowships will be available for young scientists from specific countries and underprivileged parts of the world. Details will be announced soon.
